Factory
The Factory is the level type of Baldi’s Basics Plus where the map won’t sit still. Doors lock down, hallways rotate and conveyor belts carry you somewhere you didn’t plan to go. It can appear as level 4 or level 5, and it rewards players who stop and think before they pull a lever. This guide explains every Factory structure and how to plan a route through them.
The idea behind the Factory
On a school level, the hallways stay where they are. In the Factory, the routes between rooms depend on the state of the machinery. Levers and buttons open and close doors, spin sections of hallway and change which way belts run. A route that was open a minute ago can be closed now, and the shortcut you need may only exist after you flip the right switch.
Factory structures
| Structure | What it does | How you control it |
|---|---|---|
| Lockdown doors | Heavy doors that block a hallway completely | Levers and buttons open and close them; they respond instantly to the lever’s position |
| Roto-halls | Rotating hallway sections that connect different paths depending on their position | Buttons spin them |
| Conveyor belts | Carry anyone standing on them in one direction | Buttons redirect them |
| Crane room | The central room that splits the level in two | Cranes move on their own; buttons by the output belts change their direction |
The crane room
The heart of the Factory is a large room in the middle of the level. Since version 0.14.1 it is a crane room. Cranes wander around it at random, and when one passes over a character, it picks them up and drops them onto one of the output conveyor belts leading out of the room. That includes you.
The room divides the level into two halves, and the belts leaving it are the main way between them. The buttons that switch the direction of the output belts are inside the crane room, next to the belt entrances, so you can set a belt before you step onto it.
Before version 0.14.1, the middle of the Factory was a conveyor belt room that sent you through a random belt maze, with two long belts on opposite sides as the main routes. If you watch an older video, that is the room you will see.
Planning a route
- Open the map first. Look at where the classrooms are on each half of the level and where the elevators are.
- Mark connections. On the advanced map you can place push pins in pairs. Use them to note which button controls which door or belt.
- Clear one half at a time. Crossing between halves is the slowest part of the level, so do it as few times as possible.
- Set belts before you need them. A belt pointing the wrong way at the wrong moment is how Factory runs end.
- Check the exit route. Before the last notebook, make sure the doors and belts between you and the elevators are set the way you need them.
Belts, Baldi and other characters
Conveyor belts move everyone, not just you. A belt can carry Baldi towards you as easily as away from you, and characters can be dropped onto belts by the cranes too. Use this when you can: setting a belt so it runs away from your position turns it into a barrier Baldi has to walk against.
Lockdown doors work the same way. Closing one behind you can buy time, but remember that Baldi and some other characters can still find another route, and you may need that door open again on the way out.
Lockdown doors are also used by the Test Procedure event, which closes them all for a while after a countdown. If that happens in the Factory, routes you rely on can vanish at once.
Items for the Factory
| Item | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Techno Boots | Resist the pull of belts that run against you |
| Grappling Hook | Pulls you across a belt or a long hallway in one go |
| Portal Poster | Makes a shortcut through a wall when doors and halls are against you |
| Super Stretchy Glove | Press a button you can see across a belt without walking to it |
| BSODA | Pushes Baldi away when a belt brings him to you |
The Pitstop chalkboard shows when the next level is a Factory, so you can buy for it in Johnny’s Store. For how these items compare in general, see our item ranking.
Common mistakes
- Pulling every lever you pass. You may close the door you need on the way back.
- Walking into the crane room without a plan. A crane can drop you on a belt to the wrong half of the level.
- Forgetting that belts carry Baldi too.
- Collecting the last notebook on the wrong side of the level from the elevators.
Compared to other levels
| Maintenance | Factory | Laboratory | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main challenge | Power and darkness | Changing routes | Teleportation |
| Biggest risk | A blown fuse | A belt or door set wrong | A teleporter on cooldown |
