Stamina Items
Running is your last line of defense in Baldi’s Basics Plus, and it runs on stamina. An empty stamina bar at the wrong moment means walking pace with Baldi behind you. This guide covers the items that restore stamina, the free sources around the school and the habits that keep your bar full when it matters.
How stamina works
Your stamina bar, the staminometer, drains while you run with Left Shift. When it is empty, you can only walk until it recovers. Walking is quiet, safe from the Principal’s running rule and free; running is fast, risky in the halls and limited. The whole point of stamina management is to arrive at a chase with a full bar.
The stamina items
| Item | What it does | Best moment |
|---|---|---|
| Zesty Bar | Refills your stamina | Right before a long run, when no water fountain is nearby |
| Energy Flavored Zesty Bar | Gives a short stamina boost and refills the bar | In the middle of a chase, when the bar is already low |
Both are one-use items. The Energy Flavored version makes a crunching sound when you eat it, so don’t count on it being silent.
Eat a Zesty Bar before the bar is empty, not after. If you wait until you are already walking with Baldi behind you, you lose the distance the stamina would have bought.
Free stamina sources
You don’t need items to stay topped up. The school has several free sources, and using them saves your item slots for problems only items can solve.
| Source | How it works |
|---|---|
| Completing activities | Since version 0.12, you get a stamina boost for every activity you complete |
| Match Machine pairs | Every correct pair gives you stamina and YTPs |
| Water fountains | Drink to restore stamina. Since version 0.14, every classroom on level 1 has one |
| The Pitstop | Stamina is unlimited there |
Older versions gave you stamina for collecting a notebook. Version 0.12 moved that boost to completing activities, so a notebook alone no longer refills you.
When stamina matters most
- After the last notebook. Baldi is at full speed for the level, and you have to reach the elevators.
- After a failed activity. Baldi is faster and knows where you are.
- On your way to Mrs. Pomp. Her reward depends on how fast you arrive.
- After hours. Baldi keeps getting faster once the timer runs out.
Plan your route so a water fountain or an unfinished activity is near the end of it. Finishing an activity right before collecting the last notebook gives you the boost exactly when you need it.
Running without breaking the rules
Running in the halls is against the school rules, and the Principal of the Thing reacts almost instantly when he sees it. Stamina is only useful if spending it doesn’t send you to detention. Before every sprint:
- Listen for the Principal’s whistle.
- Look down the hallway in both directions; use Space to look back.
- Remember the rule is about the halls: the playground is not patrolled for it.
- Stop running as soon as the danger is gone.
Our Principal of the Thing guide explains how fast he reacts to each rule.
Stamina and other characters
- Playtime holds you in place for jump rope, so a full bar doesn’t help until the game ends.
- Beans’ gum slows you down whatever your stamina, and only Safety Scissors or time remove it.
- Gotta Sweep and 1st Prize can carry you faster than you can run, without spending a drop of stamina.
- Cloudy Copter’s wind slows you when you walk against it and speeds you up when it is behind you.
Are stamina items worth a slot?
On school levels, usually not. Activities and water fountains give you plenty, and a slot is better used for a BSODA or Safety Scissors. On levels 4 and 5, where routes are longer and Baldi ramps up faster, a Zesty Bar can be worth carrying, especially in the Factory and Laboratory where escape routes are less predictable. Store one in the storage locker if you find it early. Our item ranking places them in the situational tier for this reason.
FAQ
Do notebooks restore stamina?
Not anymore. Since version 0.12, completing activities gives the stamina boost instead.
Where are water fountains?
Around the school, and since version 0.14 in every classroom on level 1.
What is the difference between the two Zesty Bars?
The Zesty Bar refills your stamina. The Energy Flavored Zesty Bar also gives you a short boost on top of the refill.
