Gotta Sweep
Gotta Sweep is a giant green broom who loves his job a little too much. Every few minutes he bursts out of his closet and sweeps everyone in his path down the halls, you and Baldi included. He isn’t out to get you, which makes him one of the few characters in Baldi’s Basics Plus that can be as helpful as he is annoying. Here is how his schedule works and how to make it work for you.
His schedule
Gotta Sweep lives in a supply closet, marked by a door with a “Supplies” sign. He appears in it when Baldi finishes his opening countdown and then follows a simple cycle:
- Waits. At the start of a level he stays in the closet for roughly two to three minutes.
- Announces. He calls out “Looks like it’s sweepin’ time!” and leaves the closet.
- Sweeps. For about 30 seconds he races around, mostly through hallways and sometimes through classrooms and faculty rooms.
- Returns. He goes back to his closet, rests for two to three minutes and starts again.
His announcement is your warning. When you hear it, you have a few seconds to decide whether you want to be in a hallway or out of one.
What his sweep does
Gotta Sweep moves extremely fast and pushes any character he touches. Pushed characters can be carried along until they hit an obstacle or break free, and moving on your own while swept is very hard. He pushes almost everyone:
| Character | Swept? |
|---|---|
| You | Yes |
| Baldi | Yes |
| Principal of the Thing, Playtime, Mrs. Pomp and others | Yes |
| It’s a Bully | No |
| Chalkles | No |
He can’t open locked doors, which makes him the only staff member unable to do so, and he can’t enter the Mystery Room.
Using him against Baldi
The best thing about Gotta Sweep is that he doesn’t care who is in his way. When he sweeps Baldi, Baldi goes wherever the broom goes. A few ways to use that:
- Stay out of the hallway while he passes. If Baldi is in it, he gets carried away from you.
- Ride along. If he catches you while Baldi is close, the sweep can carry you away faster than you could run.
- Break up other characters. A sweep can carry Playtime, the Principal or Mrs. Pomp away from you. A sweep can even make Mrs. Pomp forget she was coming for you.
Learn where his closet is early on every level. Knowing where he will come out tells you which hallways will be swept first.
When he gets in the way
Gotta Sweep becomes a problem when he carries you somewhere you don’t want to be: into a dead end, past the Principal, or back towards Baldi. He can also cost you time when you are on your way to the elevators. In those cases:
| Counter | What it does |
|---|---|
| Techno Boots | Resist forces that push against your movement. Since version 0.14.3 they keep forces in the direction you want to go |
| BSODA | Pushes him a little, even through walls |
| Step into a room | He sweeps mostly through hallways, so a room is often the safest spot |
| A locked door | He can’t open locked doors |
Don’t count on a classroom being completely safe. He sometimes sweeps through classrooms and faculty rooms too.
His quirks
- Characters walking past his closet while he rests inside can be slowed or stopped by him.
- His “Gotta sweep sweep sweep!” line plays every time he touches or pushes someone, so you can hear when he has caught another character.
- He can appear immediately even if you are standing on his spawn spot.
Gotta Sweep and the rest of the school
Because he moves characters around, Gotta Sweep changes the state of a level every few minutes. After a sweep, Baldi, the Principal and others may be somewhere completely different from where you last saw them. Check the hallway again before you assume it is safe. And remember that It’s a Bully stays exactly where he is: a sweep won’t clear him out of your path.
Plus and Classic
Gotta Sweep was already in Baldi’s Basics Classic, sweeping the halls from his closet. In Plus the levels are generated every run, so his closet is in a new place each time, and new items such as Techno Boots give you a reliable way to stand your ground against him.
FAQ
Is Gotta Sweep dangerous?
Not on his own. He can’t catch you or end your run. The danger is being carried towards Baldi or the Principal.
Can he sweep It’s a Bully out of my way?
No. The Bully and Chalkles are the two characters he can’t push.
How often does he come out?
He sweeps for about 30 seconds, then rests in his closet for two to three minutes before the next round.
Gotta Sweep is one of thirteen characters in the school. Meet the others in the Characters section, and read how to use his sweeps against Baldi.
