BSODA

The BSODA is the most reliable answer to almost every threat in Baldi’s Basics Plus. One spray pushes Baldi down a hallway, knocks Playtime away from her rope or clears 1st Prize out of your path. It also breaks a school rule the moment you use it. This guide covers how the spray works, who it can and can’t push, and how to get the most out of every can.

How the spray works

When you use a BSODA, a blue jet shoots out in front of you. Any character it touches is caught in the spray and carried along with it. The jet keeps going until the character hits a wall or about 30 seconds pass, and it can pass through walls itself. While a character is caught, they can’t move on their own. Baldi keeps slapping his ruler, but he goes wherever the spray takes him.

A few details make the spray more useful than it looks:

  • You can spray behind you. Hold the look-back key (Space by default) when you use it, and the jet goes backwards. You can push a chaser away without turning around and losing speed.
  • It opens doors. A pushed character can be carried through normal and swinging doors.
  • It can push objects. Items like the Alarm Clock can be carried by the jet too.
  • Two sprays stack. Firing two BSODAs in quick succession pushes the first jet forward by about one tile.

Who it pushes

Character Effect
Baldi Pushed away until the spray ends or he hits a wall
Principal of the Thing Pushed, but only briefly: if he sees you again, he chases again
Playtime Pushed away, even during jump rope
1st Prize Pushed away before he can push you
Gotta Sweep Pushed slightly, even through walls
Mrs. Pomp Pushing her can make her forget you
Cloudy Copter A spray can stop his wind quickly
It’s a Bully Can’t be pushed, and he stops anyone in the spray’s path
Chalkles Can’t be pushed
Watch out

The spray can push you too. If you walk back into it after it has left you, it carries you along, possibly towards something you were trying to avoid.

The drinking rule

Using a BSODA counts as drinking in the halls. If the Principal of the Thing sees you do it for a short moment, he chases you and sends you to detention. The delay is short, so the safe approach is simple: look around before you use it. If he only arrives a few seconds after you sprayed, you are fine. Inside classrooms and other rooms off the halls, the rule doesn’t apply.

This is why a BSODA in a hallway is a trade-off. Against Baldi at close range, detention is the lesser problem. Against a minor nuisance like Playtime, it may not be worth the risk if the Principal is nearby. Our guide to the Principal of the Thing explains how detention grows each time.

BSODA and Diet BSODA

BSODA Diet BSODA
Spray Until a wall or about 30 seconds Only three seconds
Rarity Much rarer since version 0.6 About as common as the BSODA used to be
Best for Long pushes in long hallways A quick gap at close range

The Diet BSODA arrived in version 0.6, together with its own vending machines. Since then the full-strength BSODA has been much harder to find, so treat every can as valuable.

Where to get one

  • Vending machines. BSODA and Diet BSODA machines take a Quarter. Machines run out of stock after use, and faculty room machines can be randomized into other types.
  • On the level. Cans can be found lying in rooms like any other item.
  • Field trips. Winning a minigame spawns eight items to choose three from.
Pro tip

Always pick up Quarters. A Quarter near a BSODA machine is a guaranteed can, and you can store the BSODA for a later level in the storage locker.

When to use it

  1. Baldi in a long hallway. This is the classic use. The longer the hallway, the further he goes.
  2. 1st Prize lining up a push. Spray him before he accelerates towards you.
  3. Playtime during jump rope. The spray pushes her away even mid-game.
  4. Cloudy Copter’s wind. A spray stops him and clears the hallway.
  5. Dr. Reflex with his hammer. Push him away before he can squish you.

When not to use it

  • In a short hallway or a small room, where Baldi hits a wall almost immediately.
  • Against It’s a Bully or Chalkles, who can’t be pushed.
  • In front of the Principal, unless the alternative is losing a life.
  • When It’s a Bully stands between you and your target: he stops everything in the spray’s path.

FAQ

Can BSODA push Baldi through a wall?

The spray itself can pass through walls, but a character it carries stops when they hit a wall, and the push ends there.

Is it safe to drink BSODA in a classroom?

Yes. The drinking rule only applies in the halls, which is where the Principal enforces it.

Is the Diet BSODA worth picking up?

Yes. Its three-second spray won’t send Baldi far, but it is often enough to break contact and turn a corner.
